Hmmm, if I could make it to a Bristol SWAG meeting I'd only be to happy
to buy you many many packets of crisps and beer.  Problems with that (I
am a SWAG member btw and I will get the newsletter online asap btw! :)
are:

* I'm 100 miles away from Bristol
* I'm almost Seventeen
* Which means legally I cannot drive :) (though I can!)
* I cannot afford the taxi there ;))
* Bus's don't go that far! :)

An interesting thought has presented itself upon my mind. When the new Am=
igataothing comes out, it won't be a classic Amiga. This in itself is not=
 a problem, (I'll always keep my A4000 for the Classic OS), but what will=
 AF do? Presumably a new computer platform will bring with it some new us=
ers, new developers (at this point i'm assuming Aminoga do their work cor=
rectly), new advertisers etc. etc. Will AF immediately go mostly Amigatao=
thing, or will Amigataothing take up gradually more and more pages of the=
 mag as it (hopefully) takes off? Or will Fewtch just launch a new magazi=
ne? (AmigaNG Format anyone? :)

Presuming that happens, Future will no doubt keep AF as it is for a while
while grabbing the "official" magazine licence and then creating about
fourteen other Amiga mags, just as they've done with a particular console
platform...

Grrrr, don't talk to me about, eeeeuck consoles, waste of bloddy time
if you ask me; same goes for those magazines... :)  IMO... :)

The Official Amiga Magazin eh?  How much would that cost?! :)   I
wouldn't sniff at another fourteen Amiga mags, though I'd only be able
to afford one! :)  None-the-less I am seriously considering developing
for this Elate system thingy - Just I need a PPC or urrrgh 80x86... :)
There's a ColdFire version so whether it would run under 68K is to be
seen, I'd guess not, but anyway...

Actually, if I won a couple of million on the lottery, I would seriously =
consider a regular contribution to AF, and we're talking a sizeable sum. =

We don't need lottery cash, I just remembered I have about =A3500,000

I DLed it off aminet about a month ago, but the most recent version for
amiga is no longer supported by any of the servers (besides I cant
afford the feeyou have to pay to play online). I'd mail ppl asking them
to port the latest versions of Airwarrior and AirwarriorIII, but I doubt
anyone would listen to me. Not without parting with my limited cash.

Alternatively, if someone could get there hands on the server program,
someone could perhaps setup a free server, soley for amiga users!

In the mean time, its back to CheeseWorld for me.

I have seen no comments FFS betas going ballistic, only those unfriendly
reminders, that you can patch away. But FFS beta .20 may be better,
otherwise it may not have been launched at all. Why should a system go
ballistic after having worked OK for a decent time?

I am a complete beginner to use Fusion, but I got it to run after
tweaking about a hour - much easier than Shapeshifter, which I have used
a little. I could make Fusion to accept the same hardfiles as
Shapeshifter - from CUCD (RIP) - after some fiddling and could then format
a Fusion/Mac partition. But - is there something like Shapeshifter's Mac
Handler, that makes the Mac partition visible for Amiga and allows easy
file transfer from Amiga to Fusion?

Try CrossMac, and IIRC there IS a file x-fer option in Fusion... it's hidden
in the button-menus that are on your WB screen whilst Fusion is running...

Yup.  And something much better.  Now, I believe (because I use
SShifter; well until next Monday i will... :) that when you swich from
Fusion's screen to Workbench you get the ICP window, from there you
should be able to mount any volume on the Mac to the Amiga.  Or use a
PC formatted disk (1440/720)...

The AmigaGuide should have it in but Microcode aren't that famous for
their AmigaGuides tbh... :)

The last time I enquired, the rate was
1695 for 1 full page, 1483 ea for a series of 12
890 half page, 12 series 779

300 for a quarter page.

The problem is there isn't a great amount of Amiga stuff that you could sell
that would generate enough profit to pay for the ad. I would imagine that
most
dealers would have 15% on main products like Bvision, (if there were any to
sell)
which would mean that with a selling price of 149.99 inc vat would mean a
cost price of
108 ex vat so the dealer actually gets a huge 19.65 so you would have to
sell a lot
each month to pay for the ad, and before any smarty pants say's they don't
make 15% on everything
this was just an example;-).

Forgot this:  If you don't know how to switch to workbench, use RAmiga
and M or is it LAmiga?  Cannot remember! :)  The R/LAmiga + M cycles
through screens like a depth gadget, keep on presing that combo until
you get to WBench, the ICP window should be there.

Why not cut costs by making the back half of the magazine black & white?
Most of the tutorials and letters pages don't /need/ colour, neither do
reader ads or the AFB stuff.

You could even do AF2; 'borrow' and old diskmag engine, and put loads of
vaguely AF related articles on the CD ;)

Will an A1200 keyboard, rehoused in one of those Micronik cases with a PS\2
style connector, work with an Eyetech or Power keyboard interfaced?

I'm fed up with the lack of multiple keypress support, but don't want to

But it twas the days when Colour was so bleeding expensive (actually
that's a pun, guess why! :)  that AF was mostly Black and White :).
Let's stick to full colour; we get our full =A35.99's worth! :-)

A PS/2 connector is also known as a mini DIN connector.  All you need
is one of the adaptors from Power/Eyetech and a 6pin Mini DIN -> 5pin
DIN convertor.  That'll sort you out.  Only four lines are used out of
the five/six pins anyway.  It'll work fine.... :)

Forgot to talk about this! :)  Yes, make sure you get an Amiga only one
that fits over the keyboard MPU (cannot remember the no. off the top of
my head), not one that fits in the white ribbon connector.  Typically,
dual PC/Amiga ones tend to fit in that white slot and therefore cannot
detect multiple keys.

When you buy it; ask if it supports multiple key presses and to make
sure; see if it's a PLCC socket connector.. :)

I don't know about that, but I can tell you that we have a complete hardfile
of System 7.5.3 on the CD this issue along with FreeDOS.

Ahhh no typo now, just mis-spelling perhaps...

No.  Kazakhstan as was Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan as well as
many others were former S.S.Rs until 1991, ie: Soviet Socialist
Republics; they were part of the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics) until 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.  The countries
that emerged from the collapse hadn't been on the map for a good few
years (some as far back as 1924, Ukraine and Belarus), others such as
the Baltic Republics like Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. :)  And there
were the Asian republics like the above ones.

So no, in real life, Kreplakistan is a load of bull; but quite possibly
based on the name of Kazakstan... :)

I know this- I have one just now, to connect the keyboard to a Blittersoft
keyboard interface. What I need to know is; is the mini-DIN connector on
the Blittersoft keyboard housing actually a PS/2, or is it a custom
interface? If the housing *does* convert the old internal keyboard into a
PC external one, then I could do away with the old Blittersoft interface,
and get a shiny new multiple- keypress type one.

The edition of AF134 on sale in the shops from today has decent selotape
holding the CD to the cover; it's that lovely stuff that's halfway
between Scotch and normal tape, and therefore doesn't rip the cover to
shreads.

Not like the tiny slip of tape holding the CD in the case :/

Ahh, that'll be why then; we don't get any magazines delivered from the
warehouse on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so anything that comes out on
those days is either delayed until Tuesday, or sent out if it's already
in stock.

Personally I use a shart pair of scissors, leaving the tape in place... Much
easier.

I would think you'd end up with both in the same mag, with the new machine
gradually taking over as it gets more popular.  I doubt they'd launch a
whole new mag, for what is essentially just a new model (we know it isn't,
but I'd think that's how the shareholders would mostly see it).

So, AF is now spineless. Surprisingly, it looks better for it; the paper
inside seems more suited to a stapled mag. The contents page looks
lovely, possibly because of that UFN advert on the opposite page.

Looks like there's some really good features and reviews this month too.
I still don't like the font used in the games section of the magazine
though. It'd look much nicer if all of the magazine used the same font
for body text.

Even though it's lost pages, it's not noticeable; AF has improved
greatly over the last couple of months, and because the remaining text
is so absorbing, the loss of a few pages isn't really a problem.

And I like the accidental plug for the AACD as well; (the last picture
in the DJ Nick WB PStterns drawer). How did that one get through? :)

I also have a 810Mb 2.5" hard drive that I bought from 'Power'
aaaagesss
ago.  I have had no problems with that one!
I guess you are right.  I suppose that it is almost impossible to cram
so much storage space on these drives and keep them reliable.
It is a little like putting more oranges in a bottle, you lose out
on the taste!  Yuk!

Indeed - most of the available keyboard adaptors don't support multiple
keypresses.  Another piece of advice in relation to the PLCC socket
connector type interfaces, is to make sure the A1200 motherboard has
a surface mounted chip (it's the one below-left of the original
keyboard connector).  I bought one of Ateo's keyboard interfaces
(definitely offer multi-keypresses) at the WoA, to replace my crappy
Eyetech one.  When I got home, I found that the PLCC socket connector
wouldn't fit my motherboard as the chip in question was actually
itself already socketed, instead of surface-mounted :(  However, I
managed to get it working by making my own connector.  Having said
that, I think the relevant chip is surface-mounted on most
motherboards, so hopefully that won't be a problem.

HTML is a very complex (in comparison) code, and every page will need to be
manually fixed when using any wysiwyg editor, so its useful to know it.
Amigaguide on the other hand is just text, links, some basic formatting and
couple of other commands to run files

Hi

Whats the serial port on the surf squirrel like? Theres one on amibench
which I might get (does anywhere do pcmcia L sockets?) I'm planning on
connecting my modem to that, getting an adaptor to use a serial mouse on my
internal port, and maybe using the scsi to connect a zip drive, could I do
all this with it?

There are a lots of rumours going around regarding the BVision and G4 car=
ds.
First of all, Power Computing had, as far as I can say, an exclusive deal=
 with DCE for the distribution of many of their products (BVision include=
d).
I am also aware of what is the situation with the G4 cards but, unfortuna=
tely, I
cannot disclose anything at the moment.
I can just say that some Amiga dealers are abusing of this situation to m=
ake statements that are not necessarily 100% true.
Thomas Dellert (DCE) has denied many of those rumours after we got in tou=
ch
with him.

Thx - but I got already 7.5.5 from Internet and 200 MB stuff, all
imported to Fusion from SS via SS hardfiles copied to Fusion partition
via Fusion hardfiles - complicated but worked, as I did not yet learn
how to mount thingies to Fusion.
